Nevada Senior Services Promotes Boost Your Budget Week for Seniors April 12-16, 2021

Las Vegas, NV March 24, 2021 – Nevada Senior Services is committed to empowering all older adults in Clark, Lincoln, Nye and Esmeralda Counties. On April 12-16, 2021, Nevada Senior Services is partnering with the National Council on Aging (NCOA) to mark Boost Your Budget Week with free benefits screenings for seniors.

An estimated $30 billion in public and private benefits go unclaimed every year because older adults do not know about them or how to apply. Nevada Senior Services is leveraging people power and digital power to connect eligible older adults to programs that will help them pay for food, medicine, rent, utilities, and more.

“Our mission is to help seniors in Nevada live independently with dignity and to remain in their own homes,” stated Kellee Lightfoot, Director, Care Partner Institute at Nevada Senior Services.

In Nevada alone, 35,000 or more older adults are eligible for benefits programs but not enrolled. For older adults living on a fixed income, benefits like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Medicare Low-Income Subsidy can make a significant difference in supporting their desire to stay healthy, economically secure, and independent in the community.

“Having access to benefits programs means our older friends and neighbors do not have to cut pills in half, skip meals, or turn down the thermostat in the middle of winter in order to make ends meet each month, “said NCOA. We are here to help older adults understand what benefits they may be eligible for-and take the steps to apply.”

Nevada Senior Services has a strong history of helping seniors in need. We are confident that increasing seniors benefits with BenefitsCheckUp® and other proven outreach methods will have a profound effect on the lives of seniors in Nevada.

Boost Your Budget Week is a national effort to educate older adults about benefits programs. Nevada Senior Services will be hosting two senior fairs at their Adult Day Care Centers the week of April 12-16, 2021 where older adults can learn more and get free benefits screening.

Nevada Senior Services will host a safe senior fair to promote Boost Your Budget Week. Seniors (60+) and caregivers can speak with a resource service navigator to help with free eligibility screenings and assistance with applications for long-termsupportive services. All CDC COVID-19 guidelines for safe gatherings will be followed.
